ETC Black Cup 2008 - Round 4

The weather was one of the main subjects going into round 4 of the championship as the ETC went to Donington Park and Degen Simracing’s home GP. For the first time the weather settings were set to changable and this would effect both GT classes.

The warm up for the GT Pro race was sooking wet which made the drivers set their cars up for what would be a wet race… at least that was what everyone thought. But as the race was about to start the sun was out and not a single drop of rain in sight. This made for some confusion as Mikae Simian (Flat Out) and Mikael Hellén (The Black Rebels) among others would have to pit early on to change tyres etc. No problem though for polesitter and early race leader Robin Taylor (GMT-DH Racing) as he would quickly pull out a gap on the guys behind. But shortly after the pitstops were made he suffered a disconnection which promoted the Black Rebel driver Ben Buitendijk to score his first major racewin ever and The Black Rebels 3rd of the season.

Damien Dainhumain, the only GMT-DHR car still in the race, would clinch second place 10 seconds behind Ben after pretty much fighting with others the entire race. 3rd would go to Tom Ilsbroux in his Flat Out Koenigsegg CCGT which accroding to him in the post-race interniew was a big, but a very much welcome,  surprise. Kristofer Larsson for Blue Flag Racing was another one that had alot of battles throughout the race and ended up in 4th with RPM driver Jari Vinnari rounding up top 5.

Would it rain for the GT Sport class then? The answear would be no but despite the blue sky the track was flooded and the driver had a hard decision ahead of them. Should they go for slicks or wet weather tyres, was the big question.  A wet weather setup was the right move as Damien Dainhumain would win to add to the one GMT-DHR already had taken this season. As in the Pro race things could have gotten much better for GMT-DHR as Panu Ronkainen was on the front row but had problems later in the race.

Angelo Buttarazzi took a long awaited podium finish for The Burning Tyres as he ended the race as runner up with Yoeri Gijsen (RPM) in 3rd. Team GG driver Antoine Morin managed 4th ahead of second RPM driver Kevin Ascher. This result together with the less good result of The Black Rebels means that Roaring Pipes Maniacs are still in the lead halfway through the season.

ETC Black Cup 2008 - Round 3

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

Anderstorp was going to bring good racing with it and so it did when the 3rd round of the European Team Challenge visited the Swedish track last weekend.

The GT Sport class hit the track on Friday and the viewers on PSRtv could wittness some amazing battles throughout the field as the Roraing Pipes Maniacs took a double victory but it didn’t look so 10 minutes from finish. The Black Rebels Spyker driven by Memhet Arslan was in second place but he did as his teammate did earlier in the race and blew his engine. This promoted Jari Vinnari to take second behind teammate Kevin Ascher.

A huge boost to the RPM team and their championship hopes as they now are in the lead. Andreas Löffler took a 3rd place finish for Degen Racing but this is under investigation as I type after having multiple contacts with FlatOut driver Tom Ilsbroux that resulted in a spin for the Brit. Ilsbroux finished in 5th in the end with Panu Ronkainen for GMT-DH Racing between him and Löffler. Ronkainen lead the first half of the race but had problems later on.

GMT-DH Racing would reign the GT Pro class on the Scandinavian Raceway as Robin Taylor and Ries Notenboom made a 1-2 for the relativly new ETC team. Blue Flag Racing driver Kristofer Larsson would bring his Aston Martin DBR9 up on the podium in 3rd after a solid run.

RPM continued their strong performance with Chritopher Aponte placing himself in 4th with FlatOUt driver Nathan Aljoe in 5th.

ETC Black Cup 2008 - Round 2

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Round two is over. The championship headed to France and Magny-Cours last weekend for the home race for Team GG. The GT Pro race was all about one guy - David Greco, drving for The Black Rebels. He almost lapped every single car in the feild. All but one. Christopher Aponte from Roaring Pipes Maniacs was the only driver that managed to stay on the lead lap.

Simon Bode for Degan Simracing got third ahead of second RPM driver, Bram Hengevald. FlatOut driver Rickard Norgren finished 5th ahead of the two Team GG drivers of the day, Jerome Benard and Jerome Lecomte. Only 8 were to finish the race with Nick Carnell for AnE Racing in that place.

The GT Sport race would end with the same guy on the top spot. Greco was not as dominant as in the Pro race but still had a comfortable gap to second place finisher Mikae Simian through out the race.

The race would end early due to a server crash but 75% of the distance were completed so full points were given afterwards. RPM driver Kevin Ascher grabbed the last podium with Iain Wilton (FlatOut) in 4th and Yeori Gijsen, also he for RPM in 5th.

ETC Black Cup 2008 - Round 1 GT Pro

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

Following the GT Sport race last Friday it was today time for the GT Pro class to taim the Ring.

Samuel Libeert (Team GG) would continue the same path of high performance from the teams Friday race with putting his Lister Storm on pole but he would not finish the race due to suspension problems. The race would belong to The Black Rebels and their driver David Greco who would go on and win 50 seconds ahead of Jari Vinnari in his Corvette C6R, driving for Roaring Pipes Maniacs.

FlatOut would take third with Mike Simian behind the wheels. Rodolphe Morin made up for the DNF of Libeert to score an important 4th place finish for Team GG as Simon Bode would make up for a misserable Friday event for Degan Simracing as he would finish in 5th and bring home some vital points to their championship hunt.
